DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing is a modern production method where your artwork is printed onto a specialized film with high-density inks, bonded with an adhesive layer, and heat-pressed permanently into the garment.

We use it because it delivers the best combination of quality and flexibility available today: full-color designs with fine detail and smooth gradients, brilliant results on both light and dark garments, and excellent durability through repeated washing. Unlike screen printing, there are no screens or per-color setup fees. Small runs stay affordable, every color in your design prints at no extra cost, and your reorder looks identical to your first order.

A color knockout removes the areas of your design that match the shirt color. Instead of printing ink there, the fabric itself shows through.

Why it matters: less ink on the garment means a noticeably softer feel, better breathability, and a cleaner, more premium result, especially on designs with large solid areas. Halftoning converts solid areas of your design into patterns of fine dots. It's the same technique used in classic band merch and vintage tees.

Because the dots dramatically reduce the total ink laid on the fabric, a halftoned print has the softest possible hand feel and a textured, worn-in aesthetic that looks intentional and premium. No. Making your artwork print-ready is part of our standard process, at no extra charge. Every file submitted to Columbus Print Co. is personally reviewed before production. We verify resolution, sizing, color and placement, and make minor production-ready corrections so you get the best possible result. If your file needs more extensive work, we'll reach out before anything moves forward.

Yes. We offer custom apparel design: graphics built specifically for print, from concept to finished garment. Design work is quoted per project based on scope. Email us with what you have in mind and we'll send you a quote.

A transparent PNG at 300 DPI, sized at or above your intended print size, gives the best result. We also accept JPG, SVG, PDF, AI and EPS. Not sure about your file? Submit it anyway. Every order includes a professional artwork review, and we'll tell you exactly where it stands.

Within 24 hours of placing your order, we'll email you a production mockup showing exactly how your design will print. Nothing goes into production until you approve it. If your design needs to be altered, or won't print well as submitted, we'll reach out personally with options before anything moves forward.

Orders are produced and shipped within 5-7 business days after you approve your mockup. Need it faster for a show or an event? Email us before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether we can hit your date.
